HaGefen Realty was founded by Gavriel Weinberg in January 2000, in the wake of surging of Aliya to Beit Shemesh. At that time and still today, Beit Shemesh offers English speakers affordable housing and a full range of services for New Olim, in the center of the country.
After completing his real estate licensing in February 1999, Gavriel decided to open his own company, to provide direct service to clients with his own distinctive techniques.
A native of Los Angeles, California, Gavriel made Aliyah after completing his academic degree at University of California Santa Barbara, USCB, in Environmental Studies, and following, achieved his Rabbinic Ordination in Jerusalem. Gavriel practiced as a pulpit rabbi in Lancaster, PA before he and his growing family made their final move to Israel. Prior to opening HaGefen Realty, Gavriel, as a newly licensed Israeli real estate agent, worked for national real estate firms including Anglo Saxon Real Estate.
Gavriel’s wife, Tova Bryna (nee Simon), a native of Toronto, Canada, joined up with Gavriel as a real estate consultant in 2005, and received her Israeli Real Estate Licensing in January 2006.
From the time of the Weinberg’s Aliyah to Israel in 1992, they settled in Givat Sharett, Beit Shemesh, until their home in the Sheinfeld Neighborhood was ready. ‘Sheinfeld’ continues to be a popular area for Olim to settle permanently, and also offers a ‘soft landing’ from the moment of their Aliyah.
Before beginning her career in real estate, Tova co-founded the Connections Magazine, an English consumer guide to serve the growing English speaking population of Beit Shemesh. Tova and her partner, Shalva BenDavid, recognized the appeal that Beit Shemesh held for English speaking families and saw a need for a quality English publication that would “connect” the Anglo community with local goods and services. Truly, the Anglo population of Beit Shemesh mushroomed, and Connections thrived as well: from its first edition of 150 copies in December 1993, it grew to becoming a monthly edition with circulation of over 6,000 in 2004. At that juncture, Tova and Shalva sold Connections to its current owner and editor, David Stern. At the time of its establishment, Connections was the only English publication in Beit Shemesh, and today, it remains a prominent and popular English publication in the Greater Beit Shemesh area.
As her involvement with Connections drew to a close, Tova began working with a local Israeli contractor, liaising between him and his English speaking clients who were carrying out renovations. Today, Tova draws on this experience when clients wish to renovate or remodel a property. She is able to provide assistance with the many aspects of the renovation, while suggesting creative design ideas that help clients maximize the space.
Tova draws on her work experience from her Connections days, offering a listening ear to her clients and using a sharp eye for detail. She also capitalizes on her hands on experience with Israeli service providers.
Gavriel and Tova are dedicated their shared mission of helping Jews have a foothold in Israel, and to increase Aliyah to the Holy Land, Eretz Yisrael.
